The French-style Gardens of Eyrignac, a family heritage maintained with passion<\/h1>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1523201223248{margin-bottom: 30px !important;}”]Nestled in the heart of the \u2018P\u00e9rigord Noir\u2019 (Black P\u00e9rigord), this verdant garden comes in every shade of green.\u00a0 Yews, box, hornbeam and cypress are the backbone of the garden. It is the proportions of the topiaries at Eyrignac which make it so notable\u00a0; sculpted trees and shrubs, green rooms, the patterns of boxwood, French-style flowerbeds.\u00a0 The diversity of the forms seem to have no limits, and yet remain in harmony with the architectural lines of the manor house and the 200 hectares of protected natural woodland that surrounds this setting. These gardens blend the classical and structured balance of French-style gardens with the contours and imagination of the remote Italian Renaissance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

10 hectares of green sculptures<\/h2>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html css=”.vc_custom_1515593443476{margin-bottom: 15px !important;}”]JTNDZGl2JTIwY2xhc3MlM0QlMjJzZXAlMjIlM0UlM0MlMkZkaXYlM0U=[\/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text]\u2018The French-style gardens at Eyrignac have been in my family, handed down through sons and daughters, for the last 500 years.\u00a0 Twenty-two generations have succeeded one another since the construction of the first castle or \u2018repaire noble\u2019 (noble seat).\u00a0 During the \u2018La Fronde des Princes\u2019 in the 17th century, a rebellion against Mazarin, my ancestor remained faithful to the loyalist camp.\u00a0 In retaliation, the troops of the \u2018Grand Cond\u00e9\u2019 destroyed the original castle, dating from the \u2018Haut Moyen-\u00e2ge\u2019 (early Middle Ages).\u00a0 The present manor house was rebuilt by Antoine de Costes de la Calpren\u00e8de in the 17th century on the ruins of the ancient \u2018noble seat\u2019.\u00a0 The first gardens were created in the 18th century, on the initiative of Louis-Antoine Gabriel de la Calpren\u00e8de (Antoine’s great-grandson). \u00a0The French-style gardens, following the fashion at that time, were inspired by the gardens of Italian villas. They were completely reworked in the 19th century to follow the new fashion and became an \u2018English Park\u2019.
\nMy father, Gilles Sermadiras, wanted to recreate the gardens in the spirit of the 18th century.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0He was guided by his own vision and searched the grounds for traces of the former garden\u00a0;\u00a0low walls, stairs, former ponds etc\u2026..\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0He personally drew up the plans for the garden he had so often imagined and which was a reflection of his own character.
\nI now strive to preserve this “secret garden” and try every day to pay homage to my father’s creativity by perpetuating his work with rigour and passion. ”<\/p>\n
