In my family, the Eyrignac Manor Gardens have always been handed down to son or daughter, for the last 500 years : 22 generations have been following since the construction of the first castle or "Repaire Noble".

During the war called "La Fronde des Princes" in the 17th century, in revolt against Mazarin, my ancestor was a loyal supporter : the Grand Condé's troops revenged themselves on Eyrignac and burnt down the first castle, dating from the Middle Ages. The Manor was built by A. de C. de la C. in the 17th century. The first gardens were created in the 18th (great-grandson of Antoine), who had a large fortune : French garden inspired by the 18 th century Italian design. They were totally modified into an English romantic garden in the 19 th century, following the fashion of the time.

My father, Gilles Sermadiras, who grew up in Eyrignac, could not allow to see the gardens with palm trees and bamboos ... !.

The garden did not fit to the image he always kept in his mind. He wanted to recreate them in the spirit of 18th century Italian inspired design. He thought of it for many years and some 40 years ago, decided to restore them.
He was looking for its own inspiration. He searched and found the original traces of the former garden and drew the first plan of the garden he always dreamt on.

All the trees were planted 20 centimetres high, but you could already see how the garden would become today ...
I now preside over the destinies of this "secret garden" and try every single day to do homage to my father creativity and to live on in his work with strictness and passion.

You are in the middle of nowhere, in the heart of the Black Perigord, on a protected 500-acre-forestry estate which stands in contrast with ten acres of unexpected greenery sculptures.

This garden is built as a new scenery, a theatre stage of the 18th century in which takes place a gorgeous Manor house from the 17 th century, both owned by the same family for more than than 500 years.

You will never be overwhelmed with the history but always cherished by the right movement
of past and present, the gracefulness of a man who fell in love with his land and his garden.
